Accessibility

How accessible this site is, and what to do if it isn’t.

Switch aims to meet WCAG 2.2 AA. We’re honest about the gaps and we want to hear about anything that doesn’t work for you.

Our commitment

Switch Pharmacy wants its service to be usable by as many people as possible. We design the site to work for people who use screen readers, who navigate by keyboard alone, who need larger text, who use voice control, who use high-contrast colours, who have reduced fine motor control, who use translation tools, or who have any combination of those needs.

Health information shouldn’t depend on perfect vision, perfect hearing or perfect dexterity. Where we fall short, we want to hear about it — see section 6.

Standard we aim for

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 to AA conformance level. This is the standard that public-sector bodies in the UK are legally required to meet under the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018. As a private pharmacy we are not directly bound by those regulations, but we adopt the same standard as a matter of policy.

How accessible we are

This site is partially compliant with WCAG 2.2 AA. We are tracking remaining issues and aim to be fully compliant before public launch. The most relevant accessibility features today are:

  • The site is fully usable by keyboard alone. A visible focus ring is shown on every interactive element.
  • Headings are nested in a logical order so that screen-reader users can skim by structure.
  • Text size and line spacing remain readable when zoomed to 200% in the browser.
  • The consultation flow uses a single “Continue” button per step rather than complex multi-button decision trees, to support cognitive accessibility.
  • Form fields are paired with explicit labels and instructions, not just placeholders.
  • Colour is never the only way information is conveyed.
  • Pages work without JavaScript for content; the consultation requires JavaScript because it is a multi-step form, but the pharmacy team can complete a consultation on your behalf over the phone if needed.

Known issues

We are honest about where the site is not yet good enough:

Mobile menu
The desktop megamenu collapses to a logo + sign-in on mobile rather than a fully accessible hamburger pattern. We are building this.
Photo placeholders
Pre-launch product imagery is currently watermarked Getty placeholders. Alt text exists but is not yet final. Final imagery and alt text will be in place before launch.
Pill animation
The rotating pill video on the weight-loss waiting list section does not currently respect the “prefers-reduced-motion” media query. It will before launch.
PDFs
We do not yet offer downloadable PDF versions of these policy documents. They are coming.
Coloured borders on consultations
Each lane (sexual health, hair loss, weight loss) uses a different colour palette. We have tested contrast on text-on-background combinations; please tell us if any combination is hard to read.

Alternative formats

If you need any information on this site in a different format — large print, plain text, easy-read, braille, audio, or another language — please ask. There is no charge, and there is no need to give a reason.

Email hello@switchpharmacy.co.uk with “Accessibility” in the subject line, or call 0116 296 9900. We will respond within 5 working days.

Feedback

If you find something on the site that you can’t use, please tell us. Include as much detail as you can:

  • What you were trying to do.
  • What page you were on.
  • What didn’t work.
  • What device, browser and assistive technology you were using if you know.

Email hello@switchpharmacy.co.uk. We treat accessibility feedback as a complaint under our complaints procedure: acknowledged within 2 working days, substantive reply within 10. We will tell you what we are going to do about it.

Enforcement

If you are not happy with how we have responded to your accessibility feedback, you can escalate it under our complaints procedure. You can also contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS), which is the body designated to provide advice on the Equality Act 2010:

How we test

We run automated accessibility checks (axe-core, Lighthouse) on every page as part of the build, and we run manual tests with keyboard-only navigation and the VoiceOver / NVDA screen readers before any change is released to the public site. We will commission an independent accessibility audit before we go fully live.
