Oral semaglutide is absorbed through the stomach lining with a special carrier molecule, so it reaches your bloodstream like the injection does — provided it's taken correctly.

Swallow with no more than half a glass of water, first thing, then wait 30 minutes before eating, drinking or other tablets. This matters — food blocks absorption.

Likely suitable if
- You're 18 or over
- Your BMI is 30 or above, or 27 or above with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes or sleep apnoea
- You've tried diet and exercise changes without lasting results
- You'd rather not inject, and can commit to a consistent morning routine
Not suitable if
- You're pregnant, breastfeeding or planning pregnancy
- You have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2
- You've had pancreatitis
- You have type 1 diabetes or severe gastrointestinal disease
- You're taking another GLP-1 medicine

Pill or pen — which should I choose?
Same molecule, so it comes down to preference. The pen is once a week and slightly more forgiving; the pill is daily but needle-free. Weight loss in trials was broadly comparable. Your prescriber will help you decide.
Why the 30-minute rule?
Semaglutide is fragile in the gut. The tablet uses an absorption enhancer that only works on an empty stomach with a small sip of water. Coffee, food or a big glass of water can stop it working.
What if I forget a tablet?
Skip it and take your next one the following morning as usual. Don't take two in one day.
Can I switch from the pen?
Yes, with your prescriber's guidance. They'll map your current pen dose to the right tablet dose so you don't lose progress.
Do I have to stay on it forever?
It works while you take it. If you stop, appetite tends to return, so we plan maintenance and lifestyle support with you rather than just stopping.
